JINKA GHOST 2 U

Berlin-based Transylvanian producer Jinka welcomes in the new year with more of her sonically challenging music. ‘Ghost 2 U’ is even more so, with a visceral mixture of upbeat trip-hop, trembling bass, heart-stopping drops and alternative electronics throughout. It’s a much darker offering than we’ve heard before from Jinka, yet it still sounds like her. As always, her music is accompanied by experimental visuals. The concept behind the video for ‘Ghost 2 U’ is a horror B-movie parody - that Scream cape is a dead giveaway - but the twist being a dance rave performance. You may also recognise other influences such as Freddie Mercury’s signature vacuuming scene in Queen’s ‘I Want to Break Free’ video or Michael Jackson’s all-time classic choreography from ‘Thriller’. To put it simply, Jinka has invented brutalist surrealist pop. - Hannah Thacker
